  • A Parent's Guide to Prepping for the New School Year

    Posted on August 28, 2023

As summer winds down, it's time to start getting ready for the new school year! While this time of year can feel rather overwhelming, there are a few simple steps that parents can take to make sure their child is prepared and excited for what's to come instead of feeling the same sense of dread.

Here are some tips on how to start prepping for the new school year and start on the right foot:

Don't Spend Your Summer Dreading School

It’s important to spend your summer enjoying time with your family and making memories. Don't let the start of school become a dreaded event that looms over your head.

As the famous saying goes, "enjoy the journey," because before you know it, it'll be over. Plus, this could easily affect your children's outlook on school and in turn, the next school year.

    Start Early

To avoid added stress, try to get as many supplies and tasks done early on in the summer so that you don't have to do it all the week before school starts. This includes getting the following:

    • School supplies

    • Electronics (e.g., laptops, tablets, computers). Consider rent-to-own options if you are unable to buy outright

    • Uniforms and clothing for the new year

    • Schedule of upcoming activities

    • Haircuts

Forego the Stress of Electronics With Rent-to-Own

Rent-to-own laptops and tablets are a great way to make sure your child is set up for success in the upcoming school year without breaking the bank. At Rapid Rentals, you can choose from a selection of top-of-the-line laptops and tablets with flexible payment options so that you don't have to worry about paying for it all upfront.

Plus, the lease terms are flexible, meaning you can return or upgrade your device at any time during the term.

    Meal Plan Ahead of Time

Planning meals ahead of time will save you stress and energy during the school year. Meal prep is a great way to ensure that everyone in the family is eating healthy and nutritious food all week long without having to take time out of a busy day for grocery shopping and cooking.

Talk About Going Back to School

Talk to your child in advance about the new school year. This can help alleviate any fears they may have and get them into a mentality of learning and growth for the new school year.

Even if you aren't sure what exactly will happen when it comes to teacher assignments or scheduling, make sure that your kid is in the loop and understands what to expect in the next couple of weeks. You never know when your little one might have some insight or feedback that could help you plan better.

Establish a Routine 1-2 Weeks Before School Starts

Getting into a routine is key for kids! Try to establish healthy habits such as going to bed early, eating breakfast in the morning, setting aside time for homework, and studying even if it's only for a few days before school starts. This can help make the transition feel more manageable and natural when it does come time to start school.

    Don't Forget to Make Memories

Arguably the most important of them all, don't forget to make memories in the last week of summer! Whether it's a family picnic or a day spent at the beach with friends, take some time to enjoy each other's company before returning back to a routine.

Have Something to Look Forward To

Even though going back to school can be daunting for both you and your kids, it can help to have something on the calendar in a few weeks that keeps your spirits up. Plan a fun weekend getaway or outing that will keep these next few weeks exciting.
